I feel sad that the sparkly nights of the Christmas season will soon be history. Last night, when they were all lit in honor of New Year's Eve, I tried out my new mini-tripod.
My camera has numerous presets, one for night scenery. I set it at that, attached it to the tripod, composed the shot, then put the camera on timer and voila, I had some clear shots of Christmas lights from various windows around the house. What an improvement on trying to photograph such night shots hand-held!
Now to learn how to use my other present (Photoshop Elements 11). I think I need a class!

Happy New Year to you, too, Violet! Your camera seems awesome-great pics. I imagine you will have some fun this year taking more photos.
Why thank you! I do enjoy my camera. It's my second Panasonic and I have a lot of fun with it. (It's no DSLR, but it's super portable and my goal is to learn to take advantage of all the pre-sets plus how to do some settings manually.)
I love lights at night! There is a tree down by the river near Broadway Bridge where someone has hung strings with what looks like small rectangles covered with tinfoil. These catch the light of a nearby spotlight and add an extra sparkle to the lights of the bridge and reflections from the river...
